Background InformationAnterior gradient protein 2 homolog (AGR2) (also known as secreted cement gland protein XAG-2 homolog) is thought to be a metastasis-inducing protein in breast cancer models and may be used as a means of detecting the outcome of hormonally treated patients with breast cancer. AGR2 may also play an important role in intestinal mucus production. Recent researched has also linked AGR2 to metastasis. Lower levels of AGR expression in prostate cancer may be highly predictive of the reoccurrence of disease even after a prostatectomy.
