      Synthetic oxytocin. Principal uterus-contracting and lactation-stimulating hormone of posterior pituitary gland that causes a marked, but transient, relaxation of vascular smooth muscles. Induces differentiation of P19 embryonic stem cells to cardiomyocytes. Stimulates myometrial GTPase and phospholipase C via coupling to Gq/11α. Oxytocin is known to increase Na+ excretion.
