Application CommentsThis antibody is monospecific as determined by immunoelectrophoresis against human red blood cell lysate and confirmed by immunodiffusion against a human red blood cell lysate and a known anti-SOD (Cu/Zn) antibody. Does not exhibit cross-reactivity with SOD (Mn) by double diffusion or with human serum. This antibody is reported to be suitable for use with free-floating, frozen, or paraffin embedded sections when used in immunohistochemistry. Variables assocated with assay conditions will dictate the proper working dilution.

DescriptionSheep polyclonal antibody purified by DEAE ion-exchange chromatography. Recognizes the Cu/Zn superoxide dismutase protein.
BackgroundSuperoxide dismutase Cu/Zn enzyme (SOD (Cu/Zn)) is a homodimeric metalloenzyme of aerobic organisms, comprised of subunits of ~16 kDa. Found in a variety of cell types, including erythrocytes, liver, and brain, it serves to protect cells against the oxidative damage of free radicals by catalyzing the conversion of superoxide anions (O2-) to molecular oxygen (O2) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2).
