Immersion Media: Optimal Magnification
|
Immersion media are used for high-resolution microscopy with immersion objectives (above 40x). Produced from either natural or synthetic sources, these oily liquids are applied between the specimen surface and the microscope lens. An essential characteristic of immersion oils is to have a defined refractive index (nD), which is almost identical to that of glass. This enables homogeneous oil immersion, and practically eliminates light beam deflection, hence significantly increasing the effectiveness of the lens.
Merck’s portfolio of reagents includes high-quality immersion media for microscopy. Thanks to extensive quality control during development and production, our immersion oils offer excellent refractive properties and homogeneity for optimal magnification. Furthermore, all of our immersion media are CE certified IVD products, hence they are perfectly suited to clinical diagnostics.
Immersion Oil for Microscopy
Immersion oil is used for high-resolution microscopy with immersion objectives and is applied between the specimen surface and the microscope lens. Our immersion oil for microscopy offers an optimal refractive index of 1.516 and excellent homogeneity to eliminate light beam deflection and considerably increase the effectiveness of the lens.
