  • Putative MAPK-activating protein PM28
Background InformationIST1 homolog (UniProt: P53990; also known as hIST1, Putative MAPK-activating protein PM28) is encoded by the IST1 (also known as KIAA0174) gene (Gene ID: 9798) in human. IST1 is an ESCRT-III-like protein that is involved in specific functions of the ESCRT machinery. Is required for efficient abscission during cytokinesis. IST1 is also involved in recruiting VPS4A and/or VPS4B to the midbody of dividing cells. During late anaphase, it is involved in nuclear envelope reassembly and mitotic spindle disassembly together with the ESCRT-III complex: IST1 acts by mediating the recruitment of SPAST to the nuclear membrane, leading to microtubule severing. It is shown to regulate early endosomal tubulation together with the ESCRT-III complex by mediating the recruitment of SPAST. Six isoforms of IST1 homolog have been described that are generated by alternative splicing.
