A cell-permeable, reversible and competitive inhibitor of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) with high selectivity for the brain enzyme (IC50 = 710 nM) vs. iNOS (IC50 = 20 µM). Also inhibits bovine endothelial nitric oxide synthase (IC50 = 800 nM). Binds to the heme group of NOS.
