  • Food Quality Control: In the food industry, peroxide tests are used to determine the peroxide value in vegetable oils and other edible fats. This application is crucial for assessing the freshness and shelf life of food products. A recent study demonstrated the use of paper-based analytical devices for the colorimetric determination of peroxide values in vegetable oils, highlighting the simplicity and effectiveness of this method for routine food quality testing (Ghohestani et al., Food Chemistry, 2023).

General description

Method: reflectometric with test strips 100 - 1000 mg/l H₂O₂ Reflectoquant®
Peroxide is an all purpose disinfectant which, due to its excellent antiviral, bactericidal and fungicidal action, is widely used in the food industry. Here, the Reflectoquant test strips are suited for the determination of inorganic peroxides in aqueous solutions. Furthermore the test can be used in disinfecting and rinsing solutions (e.g. in food technology, laundries) and in swimming-pool water. Peroxidase transfers peroxide oxygen to an organic redox indicator. This produces a yellow-brown oxidation product that is determined reflectometrically on the RQflex® 20. For pre-testing a sample in an economic and quick way to estimate the peroxide concentration and a possible dilution factor prior to using this quantitative method we recommend our semi-quantitative MQuant test strips for peroxide.
