DescriptionRabbit polyclonal antibody supplied as undiluted serum. Recognizes the ~52-57 kDa isoforms of MYH.
BackgroundOxidative DNA base lesions such as 8-oxoguanine (8-oxoG) are frequently mutagenic and have been implicated in a variety of pathophysiological states including cancer, Alzheimer's disease, arthritis, and cardiovascular disease. These lesions are generated by oxidative stress. MYH is a mammalian homolog of the E. coli Mut Y DNA glycosylase that excises adenine residues misincorporated opposite the oxidized base, 8-oxoG. MYH up-regulation can be observed following damage in mitochondrial DNA. Single mutations in this protein result in reduced translation efficiency of transcripts. Mutations in MYH have been observed in human colorectal tumors and lung cancer cell lines.
