Alternate Names
  • HCC95 cell line
  • Human lung carcinoma cell line
  • Lung squamous carcinoma cell line
  • Hamon Cancer Center 95
  • Human lung squamous carcinoma cell line
  • LUSC cell line
Background InformationLung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death, causing 23% of all cancer mortality in 2020. Among all lung cancer cases, 85% are categorized as non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) which is a heterogeneous group of diseases with poor prognosis and a 5-year survival rate of less than 20%. Among all NSCLC cases, 30-40% are categorized as lung squamous carcinoma (LUSC) which often affects the main airways and bronchi and is attributed to smoking as its principal etiology.

The HCC95 cell line is a human lung squamous cell carcinoma line, collected from a metastatic site of pleural effusion. Recent transcriptomic characterizations show that HCC95 show high similarity to the typical LUSC transcriptome.

Source
HCC95 human squamous lung carcinoma cells were derived from a 65-year-old male with NSCLC.

Quality LevelMQ100
Applications
ApplicationAmong the NSCLC cell lines, HCC95 has been shown to retain the lung squamous carcinoma (LUSC) disease phenotype. Early research showed that HCC95 is very similar to the original tumor genetically and histochemically, with poor differentiation and formation of keratinization. Collectively, these demonstrate that HCC95 is a valuable cell line for modeling LUSC with high fidelity in vitro. A 2010 study has exemplified its use in studying NSCLC sensitivity to cisplatin treatment.
