Description

DescriptionAnti-Neurexin3 Antibody
Alternate Names
  • Neurexin-3-alpha
  • Neurexin III-alpha
Background InformationNeurexins are heavily glycosylated and processed neuronal transmembrane cell surface proteins likely involved in cell recognition and adhesion. (Missler, M., et al. (1998) 14(1):20-26) Antibody Anti-neurexin 3 alpha (ABN96) was made against a peptide immunogen corresponding to a stretch of amino acids in the extracellular domain of human neurexin 3 alpha (Uniprot Q9Y4C0). Although the theoretical full length of Neurexin 1alpha is 180 kDa, the protein detected in human brain lysates may show a band around 180 kDa and additional bands around 40-55 kDa as a possible result of the posttranslational processing previously reported.

Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummaryNeurexins are a family of proteins that function in the vertebrate nervous system as cell adhesion molecules and receptors. They are encoded by several unlinked genes of which two, NRXN1 and NRXN3, are among the largest known human genes. Three of the genes (NRXN1-3) utilize two alternate promoters and include numerous alternatively spliced exons to generate thousands of distinct mRNA transcripts and protein isoforms. The majority of transcripts are produced from the upstream promoter and encode alpha-neurexin isoforms; a much smaller number of transcripts are produced from the downstream promoter and encode beta-neurexin isoforms. The alpha-neurexins contain epidermal growth factor-like (EGF-like) sequences and laminin G domains, and have been shown to interact with neurexophilins. The beta-neurexins lack EGF-like sequences and contain fewer laminin G domains than alpha-neurexins.

UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: Neuronal cell surface protein that may be involved in cell recognition and cell adhesion. May mediate intracellular signaling.

SUBUNIT STRUCTURE: The laminin G-like domain 2 binds to NXPH1. Specific isoforms bind to alpha-dystroglycan. The cytoplasmic C-terminal region binds to CASK.

SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein.
Molecular Weight~180 kDa observed. UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot Q9Y4C0 (NRX3A_HUMAN) states 2 isoforms due to alternative promoter usage and alternative splicing at a molecular weight of ~181 kDa and ~117 kDa, with several beta isoforms at a molecular weight 70 kDa, 51 kDa, 47 kDa, and 44 kDa. Additional bands may also be observed around 40-55 kDa as a possible result of the posttranslational processing.
