Lower Acidity, Better Regeneration

Merck’s strongly basic anion exchangers are highly resistant to acids, bases, aliphatic and aromatic solvents, as well as reducing and oxidizing agents. They have a slightly lower acidity than Type I strongly basic anion exchangers. Hence, they offer better regeneration, and slightly reduced adsorption of silicic acid.

In the reaction, neutral salts disintegrate into the corresponding base, whereas ion exchangers are transferred into salt form. Ion exchangers in the OH- form adsorb very weak acids, such as boric and silicic acids. The resin’s exchange capacity is independent of the pH value of the solution to be exchanged. The quaternary ammonium groups possess an ionization degree corresponding to that of alkali hydroxides.

Features and Benefits

  • Lower acidity than Type I strongly basic anion exchangers
  • Better regeneration and slightly reduced adsorption of silicic acid
  • Exchange capacity independent of pH value
  • Ionization degree similar to alkali hydroxides
