DescriptionPurified rabbit polyclonal antibody. Recognizes the ~128 kDa hTERT protein.
BackgroundHuman telomerase is composed of three major components–an RNA component (hTERC), and two protein components, telomerase-associated protein (TEP-1) and telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT). The hTERT subunit (approximately 128 kDa) is also the catalytic subunit of telomerase. Selective activation of the hTERT subunit has been demonstrated in the majority of tumors relative to its expression in uninvolved somatic cells making it an attractive target for rational drug design. Expression of the hTERT gene product has been documented in a variety of cancers including urothelial cell carcinoma, ovarian tumors, thyroid neoplasia, and hepatocellular carcinoma to name a few. Levels of hTERT RNA and hTERT protein are regulated by a number of mechanisms including both transcriptional and post-translational mechanisms as well as by the activity of other proteins such as the AKT protein.
