Background InformationKiller cell lectin-like receptor subfamily B member 1 (UniProt: Q0ZUP1; also known as Killer cell lectin-like receptor subfamily B member 1G, Natural killer cell surface protein NKR-P1G, Natural killer lectin-like receptor 1E) is encoded by the Klrb1 (also known as Gm4696, Klrb1d, Klrb6, Nkrp1g) gene (Gene ID: 100043861) in murine species. NKR-P1G is a single-pass type II membrane protein that contains a cytoplasmic domain (aa 1-42), a transmembrane domain (aa 43-63), and an extracellular domain (aa 64-214). NKR-P1G is an inhibitory receptor that is selectively expressed by a subset of NK cells, thereby potentially allowing for an inhibitory engagement with Clr-g-expressing activated dendritic cells during immune responses. Its levels are significantly up-regulated in NK cells following exposure to IL-2 or IL-15. Murine NKR-p1G contains a consensus ITIM motif, which is presumably inhibitory; however, it lacks the consensus Lck-recruitment motif. Clr-f and NKR-P1G are reported to be co-expressed within the intestinal epithelium and adjacent intestinal intraepithelial lymphocytes, respectively, indicating that this receptor/ligand pair contributes to the immunosurveillance of mouse intestinal epithelium in a tissue-specific manner.
