Background InformationCoronin-1A (also known as clipin-A, coronin-1, coronin-like protein, Acoronin-like protein p57, tryptophan aspartate-containing coat protein) is a cytoplasmic protein encoded by the CORO1A gene in human (also known as CLABP, CLIPINA, HCORO1, IMD8, TACO). It is a member of the WD repeat protein family of proteins that are reported to be involved in a variety of cellular processes, including cell cycle progression, signal transduction, apoptosis, and gene regulation. Coronin-1A is reported to be a component of the phagosome coat that is normally released prior to maturation into lysosomes. Mycobacteria are reported to evade host defense by recruiting and retaining coronin-1A on phagosomes, while in coronin-1A-lacking macrophages, mycobacteria are readily transported to lysosomes for degradation (PMID 10338208).
