OverviewA 37-amino acid polypeptide secreted by the β cells of the pancreas. Structurally related to calcitonin. Has anorectic effects in rats. Implicated in the development of type II diabetes through its modulation of peripheral effects of insulin. Blocks the activation of glycogen synthase by insulin.
