Description
OverviewA cell-permeable 3,4-diaminoethylbenzoate-based antioxidant that effectively prevents Glutamate- (5 mM; 3 h) induced neurotoxicity in cultured rat OHSC (by 56%, 65%, and 71%, respectively, in CA1, CA3, and Dentrate gyrus; [Fer-1] = 2 µM, added 0.5 h prior to Glutamate) and Erastin- (Cat. No. 329600; 50 µM; 24 h) induced HT-1080 death (EC50 = 60 nM) by blocking cytosolic and lipid ROS accumulation (by >80% at 0.5 µM in 10 µM Erastin-treated HT-1080 cells). Fer-1 does not prevent H2O2- (Cat. No. 386790) induced necrosis, STS- (Cat. Nos. 569396 & 569397) induced apoptosis, or Iron-independent oxidative death by Rotenone (Cat. No. 557368).

SynonymsFerrostatin1, Ethyl-3-amino-4-(cyclohexylamino)benzoate
DescriptionA cell-permeable 3,4-diaminoethylbenzoate-based antioxidant ([DPPH]t=10 min/[DPPH]t=0 = 18.8 µM/50 µM; [Fer-1]t=0 = 50 µM) that effectively prevents Glutamate- (5 mM; 3 h) induced neurotoxicity (by PI staining 24 h after glutamate removal) in cultured rat OHSC (by 56%, 65%, and 71%, respectively, in CA1, CA3, and Dentrate gyrus; [Fer-1] = 2 µM, added 0.5 h prior to Glutamate) and Erastin- (Cat. No. 329600; 50 µM; 24 h) induced HT-1080 death (EC50 = 60 nM) by blocking both cytosolic and lipid ROS accumulation (by >80% in 10 µM Erastin-treated HT-1080 cells; [Fer-1] = 0.5 µM) as assessed by ROS probes H2DCFDA (Cat. No. 287810) and C11-BODIPY, respectively. Fer-1 does not prevent H2O2- (Cat. No. 386790) induced necrosis, STS- (Cat. Nos. 569396 & 569397) induced apoptosis, or Iron-independent oxidative death by Rotenone (Cat. No. 557368).
