DescriptionImmunoaffinity purified rabbit polyclonal antibody. Recognizes the ~16 kDa survivin protein.
BackgroundSurvivin is a member of the inhibitors of apoptosis proteins (IAPs), a widely expressed family of proteins that suppress apoptosis through direct caspase and pro-caspase inhibition. Similar to oncofetal antigens, survivin is highly expressed in less-differentiated embryonic cells or rapidly dividing tumor cells but not in fully differentiated adult tissues. Elevated levels of survivin are found in human fetal lung, liver, heart, kidney, and gastrointestinal tract and in most mouse embryonic tissues. High levels of survivin expression are also found in many common human cancers, including cancers of the lung, colon, pancreas, prostate, and breast. Expression of survivin correlates with the presence of both p53 and Bcl-2.
