Background InformationInterleukin-1 family member 10 (UniProt: Q8WWZ1; also known as IL-1F10, Family of interleukin 1-theta, FIL1 theta, Interleukin-1 HY2, IL-1HY2, Interleukin-1 theta, IL-1 theta, Interleukin-38, IL-38) is encoded by the IL1F10 (also known as FIL1T, IL1HY2, IL38, FKSG75, UNQ6119/PRO20041) gene (Gene ID: 84639) in human. IL-38 is a cytokine with immunomodulatory properties. It is reported to be expressed in fetal skin, spleen and tonsil. Its expression is mostly in the basal epithelia of skin and in proliferating B-cells of the tonsil. It is also shown to be strongly expressed in synovia of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) subjects and is reported to exert anti-inflammatory effects in a murine model of RA. IL-38 alone does not induce cytokine production, but reduces IL-22 and IL-17A production by T cells in response to heat-killed Candida albicans. It also increases the production of IL-6 by dendritic cells stimulated with lipopopolysaccharides. This biotinylated antibody is suitable as a detection antibody for IL-38.
