Background InformationG-protein coupled receptor bonzo (BONZO), also known as C-X-C chemokine receptor type 6 (CXCR6,CXC-R6,CXCR-6), CDw186 (CD186), G-protein coupled receptor STRL33 (STRL33), and TYMSTR, is a receptor for the C-X-C chemokine CXCL16 and is shown to be used as a coreceptor by SIVs and by strains of HIV-2 and m-tropic HIV-1. Certain G protein-coupled receptors including CCR5, CXCR4, CCR3, and CCR2b have been identified as HIV coreceptors. BONZO is expressed in lymphoid tissues and activated T cells.
