DescriptionProtein A purified mouse monoclonal antibody. Recognizes the ~146 kDa GAPDH protein under non-reducing conditions and the ~36 kDa monomeric subunits under reducing conditions.
BackgroundGlyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) is one of the key enzymes involved in glycolysis. GAPDH is comprised of four ~36 kDa subunits with a total molecular weight of ~146 kDa. Besides functioning as a glycolytic enzyme in cytoplasm, mammalian GAPDH is also involved in a great number of intracellular processes such as membrane fusion, microtubule bundling, phosphotransferase activity, nuclear RNA export, DNA replication and DNA repair. Recently, findings have been made concerning the role of GAPDH in differentpathologies including prostate cancer progression, programmed neuronal cell death, and age-related neuronal diseases such as Alzheimer’s Disease and Huntington’s Disease. While GAPDH is constitutively expressed in almost all tissues at high levels, there are some physiological factors such as hypoxia and diabetes that increase GAPDH expression in certain cell types.
