A water-soluble 1,4-disubstituted dihydroxypropyl naphthalene compound that readily forms an endoperoxide (DHPNO2) in the presence of singlet oxygen (1O2). Thermal decomposition of the water-soluble DHPNO2 in the cell serves as the intracellular chemical source of 1O2.
Supplied with a procedure for DHPNO2 generation.
