      Background InformationPentraxins are a superfamily of multimeric calcium-dependent binding proteins, and can be classified into short and long subfamilies. A member of the latter group, Human Neuronal Pentraxin 2 (NPTX2) is known to accumulate at excitatory synapses of neurons, and play roles in guiding synaptic plasticity in healthy central nervous systems. Meanwhile, results from recent studies have indicated the potential role of NPTX2 in neurodegenerative disorders, as decreases in this protein has been associated with diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, suggesting the value of studying this protein in low abundance. The SMC™ Human NPTX2 High Sensitivity Immunoassay Kit harnesses the power of digital Single Molecule Counting technology to enable researchers to better understand the dynamics of this protein in normal and aberrant neurology, by achieving accurate and reproducible measurements of NPTX2 concentrations in human cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and blood samples.
