      Applications
ApplicationThe recombinant human Interleukin-1beta protein (or IL-1beta protein) is a potent immuno-modulator which mediates a wide range of immune & inflammatory responses including the activation of B & T-cells.
      Key Applications
      • Cell Culture
Application NotesFor most in vitro applications, human IL-1beta is fully biological activity in the concentration range of 0.1 to 10.0 ng/mL. Responding cells are (partial list): Leukocytes.
      Biological Information
PurityGreater than 98% by SDS-PAGE and HPLC analysis.Endotoxin level is less than 0..1 ng per μg (1EU//ug) off human IL-1beta..
Specific ActivityChemicon's human IL-1beta is fully biologically active when compared to standards. The ED(50) as determined by the dose-dependent stimulation of the proliferation of murine D10S cells is < 0.001 ng/mL corresponding to a specific activity of > 1 x 10e9 units/mg.
      Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummaryThe protein encoded by this gene is a member of the interleukin 1 cytokine family. This cytokine is produced by activated macrophages as a proprotein, which is proteolytically processed to its active form by caspase 1 (CASP1/ICE). This cytokine is an important mediator of the inflammatory response, and is involved in a variety of cellular activities, including cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. The induction of cyclooxygenase-2 (PTGS2/COX2) by this cytokine in the central nervous system (CNS) is found to contribute to inflammatory pain hypersensitivity. This gene and eight other interleukin 1 family genes form a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 2.

      UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: SwissProt: P01584 # Produced by activated macrophages, IL-1 stimulates thymocyte proliferation by inducing IL-2 release, B-cell maturation and proliferation, and fibroblast growth factor activity. IL-1 proteins are involved in the inflammatory response, being identified as endogenous pyrogens, and are reported to stimulate the release of prostaglandin and collagenase from synovial cells.
SIZE: 269 amino acids; 30748 Da
      SUBUNIT: Monomer.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Secreted. Note=The lack of a specific hydrophobic segment in the precursor sequence suggests that IL-1 is released by damaged cells or is secreted by a mechanism differing from that used for other secretory proteins.
DOMAIN: SwissProt: P01584 The similarity among the IL-1 precursors suggests that the amino ends of these proteins serve some as yet undefined function.
SIMILARITY: Belongs to the IL-1 family.

      Storage and Shipping Information
Storage ConditionsThe lyophilized human IL-1beta, though stable at room temperature, is best stored desiccated at -20°C. After a quick spin, reconstitute in water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/mL. This solution can be diluted into other buffered solutions. Reconstituted human IL-1beta should be stored in undiluted aliquots at -20°C for up to six months.
