Background InformationCD226 antigen (UniProt: Q5DW69; also known as Dnam-1, DNAX accessory molecule-1) is encoded by the Cd226 gene (Gene ID: 225825; also known as Dnam-1) in mouse. CD226 is a cell surface glycoprotein that belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily. It contains 2 Ig-like C2-type domains (aa 19-126 and 297-316) and a transmembrane domain (aa 255-275). It is primarily expressed on the surface of natural killer (NK) cells, T cells, monocytes, and platelets. CD226 plays a crucial role in the regulation of immune responses, particularly in the context of cell-mediated cytotoxicity and immune surveillance. CD226 is involved in the modulation of T cell responses and the regulation of immune tolerance. Dysregulation of CD226 has been implicated in various autoimmune diseases, lupus and cancer, making it an important target for immunotherapy research and treatment development.
