Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummaryThe protein encoded by this gene is a member of the Ser/Thr protein kinase family. This protein is a catalytic subunit of the highly conserved protein kinase complex known as M-phase promoting factor (MPF), which is essential for G1/S and G2/M phase transitions of eukaryotic cell cycle. Mitotic cyclins stably associate with this protein and function as regulatory subunits. The kinase activity of this protein is controlled by cyclin accumulation and destruction through the cell cycle. The phosphorylation and dephosphorylation of this protein also play important regulatory roles in cell cycle control.
Gene Symbol
  • CDC2
  • CDK1

Protein TargetCDK1/cyclinB
Purification MethodPurified using Ni2+/NTA-agarose and GST-agarose, respectively. The cdk1 is then activated using CAK and repurified by Q Sepharose™ and Ni2+/NTA-agarose
Target Sub-FamilyCMGC
UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: SwissProt: P06493 # Plays a key role in the control of the eukaryotic cell cycle. It is required in higher cells for entry into S-phase and mitosis. p34 is a component of the kinase complex that phosphorylates the repetitive C-terminus of RNA polymerase II.
SIZE: 297 amino acids; 34095 Da
SUBUNIT: Forms a stable but non-covalent complex with a regulatory subunit and with a cyclin. Interacts with DLG7. Isoform 2 is unable to complex with cyclin B1 and also fails to bind to the CDK inhibitor p21. Interacts with catalytically active CCNB1 and RALBP1 during mitosis to form an endocytotic complex during interphase.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus (By similarity).
SIMILARITY: SwissProt: P06493 ## Belongs to the protein kinase superfamily. CMGC Ser/Thr protein kinase family. CDC2/CDKX subfamily. & Contains 1 protein kinase domain.
Molecular Weight35kDa (cdk1) and 75kDa (cyclin B)
