DescriptionAnti-CaM Kinase II Antibody
Background InformationThe Ca2+/Calmodulin-Dependent Kinase family includes CaM Kinases I through IV, Phosphorylase Kinase, and MLCK. The CaM Kinases are inactive in the absence of stimuli; binding to Ca2+/Calmodulin induces conformational changes and activation. CaM Kinases have broad substrate specificity, with many cellular functions.

Key Applications
  • Western Blotting
Application NotesOptimal working dilutions must be determined by end user.
Biological Information
ImmunogenSynthetic peptide corresponding to the N-terminus of Rat CaMK II
EpitopeN-terminus
HostRabbit
SpecificityRecognizes proteins of 50-72 kDa, corresponding to apparent molecular mass of CaMKII isoforms on SDS-PAGE immunoblots. Recombinant rat calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II α subunits expressed in sf9 insect cells are also detected. As the sequences of the rat α, δ, and γ isoforms are conserved over this amino terminus region, this antibody is expected to recognize the δ, γ, and α isoforms. Antibody is not expected to cross-react with the β isoform. Proteins of unknown identity may be detected on immunoblot analysis with some lysates (40, 45 and 90 kDa).

Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummaryThe product of this gene belongs to the Serine/Threonine protein kinases family, and to the Ca(2+)/calmodulin-dependent protein kinases subfamily. Calcium signaling is crucial for several aspects of plasticity at glutamatergic synapses. This enzyme is composed of four different chains: alpha, beta, gamma, and delta. The alpha chain encoded by this gene is required for hippocampal long-term potentiation (LTP) and spatial learning. In addition to its calcium-calmodulin (CaM)-dependent activity, this protein can undergo autophosphorylation, resulting in CaM-independent activity. Two transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified for this gene

UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: SwissProt: Q9UQM7 # CaM-kinase II (CAMK2) is a prominent kinase in the central nervous system that may function in long-term potentiation and neurotransmitter release. Member of the NMDAR signaling complex in excitatory synapses it may regulate NMDAR-dependent potentiation of the AMPAR and synaptic plasticity (By similarity).
SIZE: 478 amino acids; 54030 Da
SUBUNIT: CAMK2 is composed of four different chains: alpha, beta, gamma, and delta. The different isoforms assemble into homo- or heteromultimeric holoenzymes composed of 8 to 12 subunits. Interacts with BAALC, MPDZ, SYN1 and SYNGAP1 (By similarity).
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cell junction, synapse, presynaptic cell membrane (By similarity). Cell junction, synapse (By similarity). Note=Postsynaptic lipid rafts (By similarity).
SIMILARITY: SwissProt: Q9UQM7 ## Belongs to the protein kinase superfamily. CAMK Ser/Thr protein kinase family. CaMK subfamily. & Contains 1 protein kinase domain.
Molecular Weight50-72 kDa, corresponding to apparent molecular mass of CaMKII isoforms.

  • Unless otherwise stated in our catalog or other company documentation accompanying the product(s), our products are intended for research use only and are not to be used for any other purpose, which includes but is not limited to, unauthorized commercial uses, in vitro diagnostic uses, ex vivo or in vivo therapeutic uses or any type of consumption or application to humans or animals.
Storage and Shipping Information
Storage ConditionsStable for 1 year at -20°C in undiluted aliquots from date of receipt. For optimal storage, aliquot and store at -20°C or -70°C.
Handling Recommendations: Upon first thaw, and prior to removing the cap, centrifuge the vial and gently mix the solution. Aliquot into microcentrifuge tubes and store at -20°C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles, which may damage IgG and affect product performance.
