The First Unlimited Chloride Tolerance with COD Cell Tests

Spectroquant® COD cell tests with unlimited chloride toleranceCOD (chemical oxygen demand) measurements are performed to test water for pollutants. But when the sample contains high chloride levels, such as with industrial wastewater or seawater, standard COD tests cannot be used because chloride interferes positively, and results in higher COD values.

To overcome this challenge, Merck has developed the first COD cell tests with unlimited chloride tolerance. The high chloride content is extracted by a special pretreatment step before adding the sample to the COD tubes. The two new Spectroquant® COD cell tests facilitate measurements in the low range of 5 – 60 mg/l COD, and in the higher range of 50 – 3,000 mg/l COD. This makes them excellent for analyzing a wide variety of industrial wastewater and seawater samples.

Features and Benefits
  • Accurate COD measurements in samples with high chloride content, e.g. seawater
  • Easy sample pre-treatment
  • Less toxic waste compared to norm method

More Economical and Ecological with Cycanide Cell Tests

Spectroquant® cyanide cell tests with more choiceCyanide is an anion that is highly toxic to humans and animals. A concentration as low as 1 mg of hydrogen cyanide per kilogram of body weight is considered lethal. The compound is used in many industries, such as agriculture, mining, and electroplating, as well as in gas and steel works. Unless removed, cyanide in the wastewater of these applications can easily enter the drinking water supply. Thus, water testing and treatment are vital.

Many customers are familiar with our existing Spectroquant® Cyanide Cell Test, which includes all reagents necessary for analyzing both free and readily available cyanide. Now, we offer an alternative for customers who only need to test for free cyanide. Our new Spectroquant® Cyanide Cell Test excludes reagents needed for measuring readily available cyanide, so it reduces waste, while lowering costs. Great for our customers and the environment.

Features and Benefits
  • Choice of tests to suit application
  • Fewer reagents lower costs and protect environment

Superior Sensitivity, Easier Handling with Anionic Surfactants Test

Spectroquant® surfactants cell tests with improved sensitivity and handlingSurfactants are organic compounds that are present in almost all detergents, and used in many industrial processes. Due to their extensive use, they often enter water systems. Some surfactants are toxic to humans, animals and ecosystems. Others are serious environmental pollutants. Hence, many countries have set limits for surfactants, and require regular monitoring and treatment of wastewater.

There are three major classes of surfactants: anionic, cationic, and nonionic. Of these, anionic surfactants are the most challenging, as they are only partly digested by bacteria in water treatment facilities. Merck offers cell tests for all three classes – and we have now reformulated our Spectroquant® Cell Test for anionic surfactants. The new test combines even higher sensitivity with easier handling, to ensure optimal results.

Features and Benefits
  • Complete range for anionic, cationic and nonionic surfactants
  • Anionic surfactants test with improved sensitivity and handling

Great Reliability at Great Speed with Volatile Organic Acid Test

Volatile organic acids are formed by the biodegradation of organic matter, and are commonly found in municipal, industrial and agricultural wastewater. When released, these acids can pollute the environment, and may have harmful effects on human health. Hence, authorities require regular analysis of wastewater discharges.

Merck offers highly reliable Spectroquant® Volatile Organic Acid Tests that have been reformulated to deliver faster results. The tests now only require a single reaction time of 1 minute, compared to the previous 3 + 10 minutes. The new formula also prevents turbidity.

Features and Benefits
  • Same reliable results in shorter times
  • Newly composed to avoid any risk of turbidity
