Background InformationETS translocation variant 4 protein, alternatively known as Adenovirus E1A enhancer-binding protein E1A-F, or Polyomavirus enhancer activator 3 homolog (PEA3), is encoded by the human gene named ETVA/E1AF/PEA3. ETV4 is a protein that is a transcriptional activator that was first recognized as such because it allowed for the expression of the adenovirus E1A gene upon infection. Today ETV4 has been shown to be active in a wide variety of biological processes from stem cell differentiation, to mammary gland and duct morphogenesis to motor neuron and axon guidance. ETV4 activity is regulated via the ERK/MAP signaling and a complex interplay of post-translation modifications such as sumoylation and ubiquitination. In cancers, ETV4 activates HIF and its subsequent proliferation genes and overexpression in prostate cells leads to oncogenesis. EMD-Millipore’s Anti-ETV4 mouse monoclonal antibody has been tested in western blot against K562 cell lysates as well as recombinantly expressed ETV4 protein.
