Merck Millipore Introduces All-in-One Water Purification System for High-Volume Clinical Analyzers
  • Biomedical labs with large-scale clinical analyzers use important volumes of pure water
  • These labs cannot afford downtime, and high throughput processing requires them to reduce running costs
  • New system provides lower running costs and consistently pure clinical laboratory reagent water (CLRW) for analyzers
March 8, 2011, Billerica, MAMerck Millipore, the Life Science division of Merck KGaA* of Germany, today announced the introduction of an all-in-one water purification system designed specifically for clinical analyzers.

Merck:/Freestyle/DIV-Divisional/News/News-LW-Elix-Gulfstream-03082011-170x120.jpgThe Elix Gulfstream Clinical water purification system will provide up to 100 liters per hour and 2000 liters of clinical laboratory reagent water (CLRW) daily. The system includes Merck Millipore's well-known Elix electrodeionization technology, as well as improved reverse osmosis cartridges. These complementary technologies help extend the lifetime of the purification cartridges, thus reducing running costs.

Biomedical labs need to avoid costly downtime. When problems occur due to inconsistent pure water quality, however, this can disrupt sample processing, halting or reducing a lab's output and incurring unforeseen expenses. The Elix Gulfstream Clinical system provides biomedical labs with a reliable, constant source of pure water for their analyzers, thanks to robust design and proven Elix technology. Water produced by the system meets the stringent standards of the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) for CLRW.

Sean Murphy, Merck Millipore Lab Water product manager, emphasizes the outstanding space-saving aspects of the new system: "The Elix Gulfstream Clinical system not only provides excellent water quality—it also helps laboratory managers optimize the space in their labs," he says. "The all-in-one design and small footprint let users install the system in limited space. Everything needed for operation is pre-installed in or on the system cabinet," he adds.

In a biomedical environment, fast and efficient service support is also critical. The Elix Gulfstream Clinical system benefits from Merck Millipore’s extensive service portfolio, which lets users opt for a service plan that matches their specific requirements and ensures professional, expert in-house and field service support when needed.
