Recombinant, human CD40 (193 amino acids extracellular domain) fused to murine IgG2a Fc (233 amino acids) and expressed in NSO cells. Member of the TNF receptor family. Present on all B cells except plasma cells and on some epithelial cells, carcinomas, and lymphoid dendritic cells. Interaction with its ligand, CD154 (CD40 ligand) is important for isotype switching. Plays an important role in B cell activation.
