      DescriptionAnti-dsRNA Antibody, clone 3G1
      Alternate Names
      • double-stranded RNA
Background InformationMosquito-borne viruses include several human pathogens with double-stranded RNA (dsRNA). dsRNA is produced during the replication of many of these viruses as either an intermediate in RNA replication or the double-stranded RNA genome. Viral dsRNA can induce innate immunity that leads to the production of interferon (IFN) alpha and beta, which in turn can lead to the activation of hundreds of IFN-stimulated genes that confer resistance to viruses. dsRNA of more than 30-bp length are reported to be is a key activator of the innate immune response against viral infections. Clone 3G1 has high specificity for long dsRNA (>30 nucleotides) and does not display specificity for ssRNA or RNA: DNA hybrids. It is useful in detecting a diverse range of viruses, including PCV56, DENG-1, DENG-2, MNV-151, TFV-17D, RRV, and BFV. This antibody is reported to form cyclic complex of about 30 nm in diameter with five radially protruding arms that is consistent with the features of pentameric IgM antibodies. Digestion of dsRNA with dsRNA specific RNAse III is shown to abolish the binding of this antibody. (Ref.: O Brien, CA., et al. (2015). PLoS Negl. Trop. Dis. 9(3); e0003629).
