      Brand Family Upstate
      Trade Name
      • Upstate
      DescriptionAnti-FGF-2/basic FGF Antibody, clone bFM-2
OverviewThis antibody can cross-react with native and heat-inactivated basic FGF but will not neutralize biological activity. Upstate recommends anti-FGF-2/basic FGF, neutralizing (Catalog #05-117) for neutralizing activity.
      Alternate Names
      • Basic fibroblast growth factor
      • basic fibroblast growth factor bFGF
      • fibroblast growth factor 2
      • fibroblast growth factor 2 (basic)
      • heparin-binding growth factor 2
Background InformationFGF basic (FGF2) is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF family members bind heparin and possess broad mitogenic and angiogenic activities. FGF2 is involved in diverse biological processes, such as limb and nervous system development, wound healing, and tumor growth. FGF2 mRNA contains multiple polyadenylation sites, and is alternatively translated from AUG and non-AUG (CUG) initiation codons resulting in five different isoforms with distinct properties. The CUG-initiated isoforms are localized in the nucleus and are responsible for the intracrine effect, whereas, the AUG-initiated form is mostly cytosolic and is responsible for the paracrine and autocrine effects of this FGF.

      Applications
ApplicationDetect FGF-2/basic FGF using this Anti-FGF-2/basic FGF Antibody, clone bFM-2 validated for use in IH, RIA & WB.
      Key Applications
      • Immunohistochemistry
      • Radioimmunoassay
      • Western Blotting
      Application NotesImmunohistochemistry:
Previous lots of this antibody have been shown to immunostain frozen brain sections fixed with ice-cold, ethanol:acetic acid [95:5]. This antibody has also been used at 10 μg/mL to stain paraffin-embedded sections (Matsuzaki, K., 1989).
      Biological Information
ImmunogenPurified bovine brain basic FGF (FGF-2, HBGF-2). Clone bFM-2.

      Species Reactivity
      • Human
      • Bovine
      • Mouse
      • Rat
Species Reactivity NoteThis antibody is highly specific for basic FGF from bovine, human, rat, and mouse sources and does not cross-react with bovine acidic FGF (FGF-1, HBGF-1).

Important Note: This antibody can cross-react with native and heat-inactivated basic FGF but will not neutralize biological activity (Uteza, Y., 1999). Upstate recommends anti-FGF-2/basic FGF, clone bFM-1 (neutralizing) (Catalog # 05-117) for neutralizing activity.
