Background InformationERK2 is activated by MEK2, which phosphorylates neighboring threonine 183 and tyrosine 185 residues. ERK2 is a serine/threonine kinase that phosphorylates MAP2 and myelin basic protein. This kinase is an important proximal component of the MAP kinase pathway involved in transeitting the signals from growth factors, neurotransmitters and hormones at the cell surface to the transcriptional events in the nucleus.

      Applications
ApplicationAnti-MAP Kinase 2/Erk2 Antibody, clone 1B3B9 is an antibody against MAP Kinase 2/Erk2 for use in IP & WB.
      Key Applications
      • Immunoprecipitation
      • Western Blotting
      Application NotesImmunoprecipitation:
4 μg of a previous lot immunoprecipitated MAP Kinase 2/Erk2 from a RIPA lysate from mouse 3T3 cells. Boil the cell lysate and let cool before adding the antibody, as this antibody only binds to denatured MAP Kinase.

      Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummaryThe protein encoded by this gene is a member of the MAP kinase family. MAP kinases, also known as extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERKs), act as an integration point for multiple biochemical signals, and are involved in a wide variety of cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, transcription regulation and development. The activation of this kinase requires its phosphorylation by upstream kinases. Upon activation, this kinase translocates to the nucleus of the stimulated cells, where it phosphorylates nuclear targets. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein, but differing in the UTRs, have been reported for this gene.
