Background InformationFox2, also referred to as RNA binding protein fox-1 homolog 2, is an RNA binding protein involved in the regulation of tissue-specific alternative splicing. This protein interacts with the ER-alpha N-terminal activation domain, and contains a highly conserved RRM (RNA recognition motif), which associates with 5'-UGCAUGU-3' elements. This protein has been demonstrated to regulate alternative splicing of tissue specific exons and differentially spliced exons during erythropoiesis.

      UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: RNA-binding protein that regulates alternative splicing events by binding to 5'-UGCAUGU-3' elements. Prevents binding of U2AF2 to the 3'-splice site. Regulates alternative splicing of tissue-specific exons and of differentially spliced exons during erythropoiesis. Seems to act as a coregulatory factor of ER-alpha.

SUBUNIT STRUCTURE: Interacts with ER-alpha N-terminal activation domain.

      SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus. Cytoplasm.
Molecular Weight~48 kDa observed. Alternative splicing can result in up to 9 isoforms at various molecular weights. Uncharacterized bands between ~60-80 kDa have been observed in some cell lysates.
