September 26, 2013, Darmstadt, Germany — Merck Millipore, the Life Science division of Merck, accepted a Silver Stevie® Award for their Muse® Cell Analyzer and a Bronze Stevie® Award for their Direct Detect® Protein Quantitation System. These awards were distributed by the American Business AwardsSM, the premier business award program in the United States. Finalists were announced in June, with the recipient announced at the New Product and Technology Awards Banquet on Monday, September 16 in San Francisco. Finalists and rankings were decided upon by a panel of over 200 business executives nationwide. The awards are given as a national recognition to new products that have impacted their industries in significant ways.
Accepting these awards for Merck Millipore was Warren Hinds, Operations Manager for Merck Millipore. “I was honored to attend the ceremony and accept the awards on behalf of the Merck Millipore R&D, Applications and Operations teams,” said Warren. “We are proud of our accomplishment, and the recognition by the ABA. The awards acknowledge the long history of innovation that has been a hallmark of our success at Merck Millipore.”
The Muse® Cell Analyzer is a miniaturized benchtop flow cytometer that provides greater accuracy and precision than manual hemocytometry or image-based automated analysis, delivering multi-dimensional information on cell populations. More compact, affordable, and simpler to use than traditional systems, the Muse® Cell Analyzer is accessible to researchers of all levels, empowering faster, more accurate decision-making; for more productive workflows and better insight into cell health, apoptosis, cell signaling, immune response and other commonly studied cell mechanisms.
The Direct Detect® system for rapid, simplified protein quantitation taps into Merck Millipore’s membrane expertise to enable infrared-based measurement of amide bonds in protein chains, an intrinsic component of every protein, without relying on amino acid composition, dye-binding properties or redox potential. The Direct Detect® system enables researchers to improve the speed and accuracy of their quantitation, a necessary component of most downstream applications.
More than 3,000 nominations from organizations of all sizes and virtually every industry were submitted to The American Business AwardsSM for consideration in a wide range of categories, including Most Innovative Company of the Year, Management Team of the Year, Best New Product or Service of the Year, and Executive of the Year. Roughly 35% of submissions were named finalists by a panel of more than 200 executives over five weeks of judging. Merck Millipore’s Muse® and Direct Detect® products received awards in the New Product of the Year category for Health and Pharmaceutical Products.
