      Description
OverviewNative cathepsin S from human spleen. A major lysosomal cysteine proteinase that mediates degradation of MHC class II-invariant chain complexes in human and mouse antigen presenting cells. Cathepsin S secreted by activated macrophages has the ability to process myelin basic protein and amyloid β peptide which may be relevant to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer′s disease. It can hydrolyze elastin at both acidic and neutral pH.
