      DescriptionPurified mouse monoclonal antibody generated by immunizing Balb/c mice with the specified immunogen and fusing splenocytes with P3x63 Ag 8.653 myeloma cells. Recognizes TGF-β2 and TGF-β3.
      BackgroundTransforming growth factorβs are a family of proteins originally characterized by their ability to act synergistically with EGF or TGFα. TGFβs have been found to produce multiple biological effects including mitogenesis, growth inhibition, chemotaxis and induction or inhibition of differentiation. In their mature form TGFβs are acid- and heat-stable disulfide-linked homodimeric proteins (Mr = ~25 kDa), with each homodimer consisting of 112 amino acid residues. Two homodimeric forms of TGFβ have been identified (TGFβ1 and TGFβ2) which show significant amino acid sequence homology. A new member of the family, TGFβ3 has recently been cloned and characterized. There is greater amino acid homology between TGFβ3 and TGFβ2 as compared with TGFβ1. All TGFβs are released by cells in a biologically latent form. Most cells have high affinity receptors for TGFβ1, β2, and β3.
