Application CommentsDoes not bind non-reduced adducts and reduced modifications arising from malondialdehyde (MDA) or structurally-related alkenals such as trans-2-noneal. Does not cross-react with non-reduced amino acid-HNE Michael adducts. Antibody binding requires the presence of the 4-hydroxyl group. Variables associated with assay conditions will dictate the optimal working dilution.

DescriptionRabbit polyclonal antibody supplied as diluted serum. Recognizes, specifically, chemically reduced amino acid-(4)-HNE adducts.
BackgroundThe CNS is enriched in polyunsaturated fatty acids and is therefore particularly vulnerable to lipid peroxidation. 4-Hydroxy-2-noneal (HNE) is one of the major lipid peroxidation products with cytotoxic and mutagenic activity. It reacts with protein residues such as histidine to generate stable Michael adducts. HNE has been shown to inhibit neurite outgrowth and disrupt microtubules and tubulin modification, suggesting it may play a role in Alzheimer's disease.
