      • Chemicon
      DescriptionAnti-HES-1 Antibody
      Alternate Names
      • Hairy 1
Background InformationHes1 is a transcriptional repressor of genes that require a bHLH protein for their transcription. It may act as a negative regulator of myogenesis by inhibiting the functions of MYOD1 and ASH1. Hes1 is expressed in developing neuroectodermal and endodermal endocrine tissues, and Hes1 deficient embryos show severe defects in neuronal development, as well as pancreatic hypoplasia.

      Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummaryThis protein belongs to the basic helix-loop-helix family of transcription factors. It is a transcriptional repressor of genes that require a bHLH protein for their transcription. The protein has a particular type of basic domain that contains a helix interrupting protein that binds to the N-box rather than the canonical E-box.

      UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: SwissProt: Q14469 # Transcriptional repressor of genes that require a bHLH protein for their transcription. May act as a negative regulator of myogenesis by inhibiting the functions of MYOD1 and ASH1 (By similarity).
SIZE: 280 amino acids; 29541 Da
SUBUNIT: Transcription repression requires formation of a complex with a corepressor protein (Groucho) such as TLE2 (By similarity). Interacts with SIRT1.
      SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus.
DOMAIN: SwissProt: Q14469 Has a particular type of basic domain (presence of a helix-interrupting proline) that binds to the N-box (CACNAG), rather than the canonical E-box (CANNTG). & The C-terminal WRPW motif is a transcriptional repression domain necessary for the interaction with Groucho, a transcriptional corepressor recruited to specific target DNA by Hairy-related proteins.
SIMILARITY: Contains 1 basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) domain. & Contains 1 Orange domain. ... hide » see more »
