      Alternate Names
      • Breast Carcinoma Associated Glycoprotein
      • Breast cancer antigen 225
      • BRST-1
Background InformationBCA-225 is a glycoprotein present in human breast carcinoma cells that has been reported to show a restricted distribution in other human tissues. It is secreted by the T47D breast carcinoma cell line and its expression is common in adenocarcinomas of the breast (~98%), ovary (~ 80%), and lung (~74%) but is reported to be rare in adenocarcinomas of the gastrointestinal tract (~ 10%). Clone CU18 specifically recognizes BCA-225 in breast carcinoma an does not react with other benign or malignant tissues. BCA-225 is considered to be a a highly sensitive marker of mammary tissue and intracytoplasmic staining has been shown in over 95% of breast carcinomas, both in the primary tumor and in its metastases.
