There are a variety of methods to reduce virus, such as treatments with dry heat, steam or at pH 4. For virus inactivation in proteins, such as Factor VIII or van Willebrand factor, a solvent/detergent treatment is the method of choice to inactivate lipid-coat enveloped viruses. With other proteins, such as albumine, pasteurization is the preferred option.
