Quality Assurance and Process Control

Diluted Reference Material – ready-to-use

Analytical Quality Assurance becomes every day more important to secure the measure results of the samples. For waste and waste water analysis Merck is the first supplier which offers diluted, ready-to-use concentrations of reference standards including the information about the expanded measurement uncertainty for photometric methods. Also standards for e.g. TOC analyzers, ICP-OES or Ion chromatography are offered ready-to-use to avoid dilutions.

Comprehensive Control for Reliable Analytical Results

Quality AssuranceComprehensive quality assurance will transform your measurements with Merck´s test systems into proven and verifiable analytical results. At Merck, quality comes naturally to us. All our products are subject to diligent function and release testing. However, the user will still have to perform quality assurance in accordance with general laboratory standards. We recommend that you use our extensive range of process control options.

Process Control for Visual Test Kits

Visual test kitsThe quality assurance for MQuant®:

  • pH tests or indicator papers
  • test strips
  • colorimetric and titrimetric test kits

The concentration of these reference materials should correspond to the graduation which is close to the expected concentration of the sample. The most suitable standard solutions are described in the package insert for the relevant test kits. If the test yields the predetermined concentration of the standard solution, then this means that the entire analysis system is operating correctly.

Process Control for Reflectoquant®

Process Control for Reflectoquant®To check the entire analysis system – test strips, instrument, pipettes and handling - the standard solutions are measured multiple times. Please note that the concentration of the standard solution should approximate the concentration of your sample. If the test yields the predetermined concentration of the standard solution within a tolerance of ± 10%, then this means that the entire analysis system is operating correctly. The most suitable standard solutions are described in the package inserts of the relevant test kits.

Foreign substances can interfere with the determination. To determine these interferences, there are two methods:

a) Identification of matrix effects by means of dilution: This method is especially suitable for samples with analyte content that falls within the upper half of the measuring range of the corresponding test kit.

b) Identification of matrix effects by means of standard addition: This method is especially suitable for samples with analyte content that falls within the lower half of the measuring range of the corresponding test kit.

Pipette Test for Checks Without a Balance

Pipette test for checks without a balancePipettes should be tested at regular intervals in connection with Internal Quality Control measures (IQC). This is usually done by weighing the volume of a liquid on a calibrated precision balance. Such a balance is, however, not always readily available. With Spectroquant® PipeCheck  you can check your pipettes and document the measurement results accordingly – even if you don’t have a balance.
