MUC-1 is a membrane bound, glycosylated phosphoprotein and a member of the mucin family. This protein is found on the apical surface of epithelia. The amount of glycosylation varies by cell type. MUC-1 can bind to pathogens, thus serving a protective role. MUC-1 also functions in a cell signaling capacity. Overexpression of MUC-1 is associated with carcinomas.  More>>
