      OverviewHas been characterized as one of the most important tumor-specific antigens in individuals with malignant melanoma. Reported to disrupt mitochondrial transmembrane potential and induce apoptosis in tumor cells by a caspase-independent mechanism. Antibodies to GD3 can induce partial remission of tumor growth in animals and in humans via enhancement of cytotoxic and proliferative responses of lymphocytes.
