Stem cells have the unique ability to turn into different tissues of the body based on specific environmental cues exerted upon the cells. The identification of the key proteins involved in maintaining stem cell identity and functional have been critical to understand stem cell biology. Key transcription factors such as Oct-4, Nanog and Sox-2 are critical in maintaining embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells in their pluripotent state. Upon differentiation, many of these pluripotency genes are downregualted while other differentiated markers are upregulated depending on the local environmental cues. Understanding what causes these changes is the key to understanding stem cell biology.
Merck is committed to providing validated stem cell antibodies for common and novel protein targets which are related to all areas of stem cell biology. From pluripotent stem cells to neural and mesenchymal stem cells, antibodies exist in various formats for each target, validated in different research applications and cited in many publications.
