Thimerosal has strong antiseptic and antifungal capabilities and is therefore typically used as preservative in liquid dosage forms of cosmetics and pharmaceutical products.

As part of the corporation global plan to support the MinamataConvention in eliminating mercury-containing compounds, as of January 2021customers will be required to provide an End-Use Declaration. The sales ofthimerosal will be restricted for approved applications only, such aspreservative in vaccine manufacturing, preservative in eye cosmetics, researchuse within academia (excluding preservation intent) and as reference materialonly. The product is not intended for use as a biocide under global biocideregulations, including but not limited to US EPA′s Federal InsecticideFungicide and Rodenticide Act , European Biocidal Products Regulation, Canada’sPest Management Regulatory Agency, Turkey’s BiocidalProducts Regulation, Korea’s Consumer Chemical Products and BiocideSafety Management Act (K-BPR) and others.
