DescriptionProtein G purified mouse monoclonal antibody. Recognizes the ~63 kDa (apparent MW) calreticulin protein.
BackgroundCalreticulin is a calcium binding protein found primarily in the ER and the sarcoplasmic reticulum, although it also has been detected in the nucleus and nuclear envelope. It has the conserved KDEL sequence at its C-terminus for retention in the ER. It contains both high and low affinity calcium binding sites, is involved in calcium storage and regulation. The calcium binding at the C-terminus of calreticulin has been postulated to be involved with regulating the interaction of KDEL proteins with the KDEL receptor. Calreticulin also acts as a molecular chaperone for protein folding, in concert with Grp78 and Grp94.
