      • Prostate-derived Ets Factor
Background InformationPDEF (prostate-derived Ets factor) is a 37.5-kDa protein that acts as an androgen-independent transcriptional activator for the PSA (prostate specific antigen) promoter. It also interacts directly with the DNA binding domain of androgen receptor and enhances androgen-mediated activation of the PSA promoter. PDEF was shown to have transcript levels 192-fold higher in the peripheral blood of some breast cancer patients in comparison with normal individuals. PDEF mRNA is also frequently over-expressed in human breast tumors as well as in human ovarian tumors. In ovarian tumors, PDEF expression seems to down-modulate malignant potential, and thus provides a rationale to screen for drugs that induce PDEF expression in epithelial ovarian tumors.

      UniProt Number
UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: SwissProt: O95238 # May function as an androgen-independent transactivator of the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) promoter. Binds to 5'-GGAT- 3' DNA sequences. May play a role in the regulation of the prostate gland and/or prostate cancer development. Acts as a transcriptional activator for SERPINB5 promoter.
SIZE: 335 amino acids; 37518 Da
SUBUNIT: Interacts with the DNA-binding domain of the androgen receptor. Interacts with NKX3-1.
      SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus (Probable).
TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Expressed in a very restricted set of primarily hormone-regulated epithelial tissues with particularly high expression in the prostate gland. Significantly lower expression is seen in other hormone regulated tissues such as mammary gland, salivary gland, and ovary. Expressed in prostate carcinoma cells.
SIMILARITY: SwissProt: O95238 ## Belongs to the ETS family. & Contains 1 ETS DNA-binding domain. & Contains 1 PNT (pointed) domain.
