      DescriptionAnti-Monocarboxylate Transporter 1 Antibody
      Alternate Names
      • Protein IGO1
Background InformationMonocarboxylate transporter 1 (UniProt: P53987; also known as MCT 1, Solute carrier family 16 member 1) is encoded by the Slc16a1 (also known as Mct1) gene (Gene ID: 25027) in rat. MCT1 is a multi-pass membrane protein that is detected in erythrocytes, astrocytes, heart, kidney, muscle, and small intestine. It contains 12 transmembrane domains, 6 extracellular domains, and 7 cytoplasmic domains. It serves a proton-coupled monocarboxylate transporter that catalyzes the rapid transport across the plasma membrane of many monocarboxylates, including lactate, pyruvate, branched-chain oxo acids, acetoacetate, and beta-hydroxybutyrate. Depending on the tissue and on circumstances, it mediates the import or export of lactic acid and ketone bodies. It is shown to be essential for normal nutrient assimilation, increase of white adipose tissue and body weight gain when on a high-fat diet. It also plays a role in cellular responses to a high-fat diet by modulating the cellular levels of lactate and pyruvate with concomitant effects on plasma insulin levels and blood glucose homeostasis.

      Applications
ApplicationAnti-Monocarboxylate Transporter 1, Cat. No. AB1286-I, is a chicken polyclonal antibody that detects Monocarboxylate Transporter 1 and is tested in Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin), Peptide Inhibition Assay, and Western Blotting.
      Key Applications
      • Western Blotting
      • Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin)
      • Peptide Inhibition Assay
Application NotesImmunohistochemistry (Paraffin) Analysis: A 1:1,000-2,500 dilution from a representative lot detected Monocarboxylate Transporter 1 in rat kidney and rat skeletal muscle tissue sections.

Peptide Inhibition Assay: Target band detection in rat brain membrane lysate was prevented by pre-blocking of a representative lot with the immunogen peptide.
