Background InformationETS1 belongs to a family of transcription factors that regulates expression of several genes participating in extracellular matrix remodeling. Members of the ETS family regulate a variety of genes involved in stem cell development, cell senescence, and tumorigenesis. ETS1 is typically absent in healthy gastric epithelium, but expressed in many gastric carcinomas and oral squamus cell carcinomas.
This family of transcription factors contains 2 main domains; a transactivation domain (TA), and a winged helix-turn-helix DNA-binding domain that recognizes the core consensus DNA sequence GGAA/T of target genes. This DNA-Binding-Domain is highly conserved among ETS family members.

      Entrez Gene Number
Entrez Gene SummaryETS transcriptions factors, such as ETS1, regulate numerous genes and are involved in stem cell development, cell senescence and death, and tumorigenesis. The conserved ETS domain within these proteins is a winged helix-turn-helix DNA-binding domain that recognizes the core consensus DNA sequence GGAA/T of target genes (Dwyer et al., 2007 [PubMed 17986575]).[supplied by OMIM].

      UniProt Number
      UniProt SummaryFUNCTION: Transcription factor.

SIZE: 441 amino acids; 50408 Da

SUBUNIT: Binds to DAXX. Interacts with UBE2I.

      SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus.

PTM: Sumoylated on Lys-15 and Lys-227, preferentially by SUMO2; which inhibits transcriptional activity (By similarity). & Ubiquitinated; which induces proteasomal degradation (By similarity).

DISEASE: ETS is responsible for erythroblast and fibroblast transformation. The juxtaposition of the interferon and c-ETS-1 proto-oncogene may be involved in the pathogenesis of human monocytic leukemia.

SIMILARITY: Belongs to the ETS family. & Contains 1 ETS DNA-binding domain. & Contains 1 PNT (pointed) domain.
